Police detain Masters champ on felony charges

Four counts filed against Scheffler after traffic incident

Louisville, KY (August 2024) - Former Masters champion Scottie Scheffler was arrested Friday morning outside the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. Scheffler was charged with a felony and other counts after being detained by police following a traffic incident.

According to authorities, Scheffler was pulled over for speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. Police say he failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody.

Scheffler is facing four charges: speeding, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and possession of an open container. He was booked into the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and is expected to appear in court later today.

The arrest comes as a shock to the golfing world. Scheffler, 26, is one of the top players in the game. He won the Masters Tournament in April and is currently ranked No. 1 in the world.

The PGA Championship is one of the four major tournaments in golf. It is being held this week at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville.

The PGA of America has released a statement saying that it is aware of Scheffler's arrest and is gathering more information. The organization said it will take appropriate action once all the facts are known.
