Yankees Lose Series Opener to Orioles, Benches Clear in Ninth
Judge's Homer Not Enough to Prevent Yankees Loss
Yankees Drop First Game of Three-Game Series
In a thrilling and tension-filled game, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Yankees 17-5 in the opening game of their three-game series on Saturday. The Orioles knocked out rookie pitcher Luis Gil early, scoring their second-most runs in a road game against the Yankees.
The Yankees had taken an early lead with Aaron Judge's 33rd homer of the season, but the Orioles quickly responded with a six-run second inning. The Yankees managed to score two more runs, but the Orioles continued to pile on the pressure, scoring 11 unanswered runs.
The tension reached its peak in the bottom of the ninth inning when Orioles outfielder Heston Kjerstad was hit in the helmet by a 97 mph fastball. Benches cleared as Orioles manager Brandon Hyde was ejected. The incident was a culmination of long-simmering tensions between the two teams.
The Yankees will be looking to bounce back in the second game of the series on Sunday. The Orioles, meanwhile, will be hoping to continue their winning streak and extend their lead in the AL East.
